Week 8 The Horned Toad Prince Vocabulary and Spelling Words

LONG e - Spelling words   Week 8 communication book insert Week 8 Learning  As we begin Week 8, students will be introduced to a new story, The Horned Toad Prince . Throughout the week, our focus will be on developing reading and spelling skills through engaging, structured activities. Students will learn and practice long vowel “e” spelling patterns , helping them recognize and correctly spell words that contain this sound. We will work on identifying patterns, applying spelling rules, and using these words in context to strengthen understanding. In addition, students will explore key vocabulary from the story and apply their knowledge through reading activities. We will also read and discuss the vocabulary story found on page 115 in the Reading Street book, Tall Paul . This will support comprehension, build fluency, and deepen students’ understanding of how vocabulary is used within a text. Week 7 Lewis and Clark and Me

  Week 7 PPT  RWN Lewis and Clark and Me As we enter Week 7, students in A2 will focus on several key literacy skills using their RWN book. Lessons will include identifying and understanding imperative and exclamatory sentences , as well as developing skim and scan reading strategies to improve reading efficiency and comprehension. Students will also be introduced to the  author’s purpose , learning to identify whether a text is persuasive, informative, or entertaining (PIE) . In addition, they will continue with story reading and comprehension activities , alongside targeted practice with Week 7 vocabulary, including word usage and definitions . Please note that on Wednesday, March 25 , there will be no official classes due to a scheduled outing. Students will take their Unit Test on Thursday during Period 2 , following a thorough review in Period 1 to help ensure they are well prepared.

Week 6 Friday Homework

Story Story Comprehension and AK   Dear Parents and Students, This weekend’s homework is to read the story Lewis and Clark and Me and complete the accompanying comprehension worksheet. As you read, please highlight key sentences and mark any unknown words or confusing parts . This will help us focus on important details and deepen our understanding during class next Monday. This story is a piece of historical fiction told from the perspective of Seaman, a Newfoundland dog , who joins Lewis and Clark on their expedition along the river. Students may find parts of the story challenging, especially the cultural and historical context of the westward journey, the environment, and events such as traveling by boat, hunting, and encountering new lands and people. By identifying key ideas and questions in advance, students will be better prepared to participate in focused discussions and detailed comprehension activities next week. Preview for week 6

story- Lewis and Clark and Me   Week 6 vocabulary ONLY Week 6 spelling ONLY Week 6 PPT As this will be a shorter week of lessons, we will begin previewing the Week 6 Word Work in class. During this time, students will be introduced to the upcoming vocabulary and spelling patterns so they can become familiar with the words before we begin working with them more deeply next week. In class, students will practice recognizing the spelling patterns, discussing the meanings of the words, and completing short activities to help them understand how the words are used in context. This preview will help prepare them for next week’s lessons, reading activities, and assessments. Previewing the material ahead of time allows students to build confidence and gives them more opportunities to practice the words before they are formally tested. Students are encouraged to review the words at home as well so they can feel comfortable with both the spelling patterns and the meanings.

They should also read the story carefully and complete the comprehension homework pages to strengthen their understanding of the text. Please note that Thursday, March 12, will be our Unit Test for Because of Winn-Dixie . The test will include the Week 5 story words and several components from the RWN (Reading and Writing Notebook) .   Week 3&4 PPT Spelling Words D efinitions Spelling words ONLY VCCV Because of Winn Dixie Story Week 4 spelling words (#8–25) are listed in the Communication Book. Students are expected to focus on the correct spelling, definitions, and appropriate usage of each word. A spelling assessment will take place on Thursday, March 5th . Throughout the week, students will participate in structured learning activities using their RWN lessons, handouts, and additional supplemental reinforcement practices designed to strengthen both comprehension and spelling accuracy. These activities will help students develop a clear understanding of each word and its proper use. Please encourage your child to review and practice these words daily at home to ensure they are well prepared for the upcoming assessment.
