Week 5 

This week, students will review the Week 5 story words and the PowerPoint presentation to reinforce key concepts. They should also read the story carefully and complete the comprehension homework pages to strengthen their understanding of the text.

Please note that Thursday, March 12, will be our Unit Test for Because of Winn-Dixie. The test will include the Week 5 story words and several components from the RWN (Reading and Writing Notebook).

Students should review the following concepts in preparation for the test:

  • Story sequencing

  • Understanding the meaning and characteristics of Realistic Fiction

  • Identifying and writing declarative and interrogative sentences, and converting one sentence type into the other

  • Word building using suffixes, including:

    • -ful (meaning full of)

    • -al (meaning from, of, or like)

Encourage your child to review their notes, vocabulary, and homework pages to feel confident and prepared. Thank you for your continued support in helping students succeed in their learning!

Week 3

  This week will be an intensive week of learning as we complete The Man Who Invented Basketball . Students will be introduced to a new set of story words, though words #7, #8, and #22 will not be included in testing out of respect for personal beliefs and values . Alongside the story words and story comprehension, students will also focus on grammar with an introduction to pronouns. To conclude the week, our unit test on Thursday will cover the key components taught throughout these daily lessons.
