Week 11
Greetings, Students and Parents of A2
Overall, the students performed well on their exams; however, I was somewhat disappointed that a few did not achieve the results I had anticipated. Moving forward, I will reflect on and adjust my lessons to place greater emphasis on reinforcing grammar conventions. I will also encourage students to read more actively and to highlight key components within each story to support comprehension and accuracy.
The class averages were: 94 for the Written Exam, 96 for Listening, and 99 for the Oral Exam. I believe that carelessness may have affected some students’ written exam performance, particularly as a word bank was provided for spelling, phonics, and vocabulary. I will continue to guide students in checking their work carefully to improve overall accuracy.
As we continue in Week 11, our A2 students will start a new story, What Jo Did, as regular lessons resume after the exam week. We will move at a slower and more supportive pace to help students feel comfortable and confident after their exams. This story will be interesting and enjoyable for our Grade 4 learners.
All English exams will be marked and scored this week. Students will review and correct their work using a blue pen. The corrected exams will be sent home on Friday, April 24, for parents to review and sign.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.
In addition, students will begin preparing for the annual Spelling Bee. There is no pressure at this stage, and we encourage all students to take part and enjoy the experience. The Spelling Bee will take place in each homeroom during Week 12 on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
The Grade 4 word list will begin with Cambridge Flyers vocabulary and then move to the KET word list. Each class will select five students to participate in the Grade 4 Spelling Bee Championships on May 29.
